It might be easy to copy this painting if I had the exact same pigments and the same brushes and the same board to paint on. It has been a wonderful lesson on mixing colours. So far I have painted the background and the shadows on the snow but both are too light. Thomson let some of the wood of his board show through so I started by tinting my board with some light brown gesso. Once I cover the light brown with white for the snow the other colours may look a bit darker. It is the sharp contrast between the warm snow and cool shadows that make this painting so I may have to go back in and darken everything. It still has a long way to go.
I am still having fun and learning so I am still excited about class.
